Make sure that Size is set to Letter which will make the dimensions 8.5" by 11".
Then click OK.
Step 02: Draw Rectangle
We will start this Restaurant Flyer by first creating its background.
Select the Rectangle Tool from the Toolbox to the left of the screen.
Click any blank area on the page and the Rectangle Window will appear.
You will use this window to set the dimensions of your Rectangle.
Set Width to 0.8" and Height to 2.5", click OK.
Step 03: Create Duplicate
Now you have to create a Duplicate of this Rectangle.
Click on the Selection Tool in the Toolbox. Move your cursor over the Rectangle.
The cursor will change from a Black Arrow to just the Black Tip of the Arrow. Hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and a White Tip will appear above the Black.
Hold down your mouse button and drag your cursor away from the Rectangle and you will see a Duplicate shape appear.
Step 04: Rotate Object
Place one Rectangle at the top left hand corner of the page.
Go up to the Menu Bar and select Object > Transform > Rotate.
This opens the Rotate Window.
Set the Degrees to 90 and click OK.
Move the Rotated Rectangle to the top left corner as well so that it overlaps the first rectangle.
Step 05: Pathfinder - Unite
Select both Rectangles by dragging the cursor over them while holding down your mouse button.
Go up to the Menu Bar and select Window > Pathfinder.
This opens the Pathfinder Window.
Notice there are also Tabs for Transform (where you can find Rotation) and Align.
Select the Unite Icon in the Shape Modes section of the Pathfinder Tab.
Now you have 1 Solid Shape.
Step 06: Transform - Rotate
Repeat Step 03 to create a Duplicate of this shape.
With the second shape selected, click on the Transform Tab.
The last box on the left represents Rotation Degrees.
Set its value to 180 Degrees.
Step 07: Set Fill Color
Move the Rotated Shape to the bottom right of the page.
Select both shapes, then click on the Color Tab on the right of the screen.
Notice that the colors are set for CMYK.
Let's change this to RGB Values.
On the top right corner of the Color Window is a Drop Down Arrow.
Click on it to reveal a Color Options Menu.
There select RGB.
Your Color Window will now show the RGB Color Options instead of CMYK.
Now we can set the Fill Color.
Set R to 247, G to 148 and B to 30.
You will not see the color when you type in the last value.
You can click anywhere on the screen and the color will change.
Step 08: Set Stroke Color
Notice that the Stroke of the shapes is set to Black.
To change this you must first click on the Stroke Icon that is below the Fill Icon.
This will raise the Stroke Icon to the top.
You will notice 3 Tiny Squares together below the Fill and Stroke Icons.
The first represents No Stroke.
The other 2 set the Stroke Color to Black and White respectively.
Both shapes will now have No Stroke.
