Create Amazing Flyers As You Learn Graphic Design

Step 09: Add Another Rectangle

Repeat Step 02 to draw a Rectangle and set Height to 9.2" and Width to 6.7".

The Rectangle automatically gets filled with the last color that was used. So in this case, it's our Orange. Repeat Step 07 and set Fill - R to 255, G to 246 and B to 236.

Repeat Step 08 and set Stroke - R to 247, G to 148 and B to 30.

Step 10: Royalty Free Clip Art

Now we can add an Image to the Flyer. The Public Domain Vector Clipart for this Restaurant Flyer was downloaded from Clker

The Clipart is called Moself Cutlery by Lyo.

Once the Image has been downloaded, you will need to place it into the Flyer.

Step 11: Place Image

Go to the Menu Bar, select File > Place.

This opens the Place Window.

On the Tool Property Bar, click on the Down Arrow next to Opacity and select 30% from the Drop Down Menu that appears. You can also type this number in the box.

Notice that the image is much lighter than it was originally.

Step 13: Free Fonts

Next we can start adding text to the Flyer. For the Restaurant Flyer Title, SubTitles and Telephone, the Font used is Not Mary Kate by Nick's Fonts, which was downloaded from FontSpace.

If you want to view more of Nick's Fonts check out his website at Nicksfonts.

For the remaining text I used a Font called Monoglyceride. It can be downloaded from FontFreak and is designed by Tepid Monkey Fonts.

(Note for a newly downloaded Font to be usable on your machine, you must first install it. Any Font installed while Illustrator is open, will not be visible in the Font List. To correct this, you will have to restart the Illustrator program after Font(s) installation.)

Step 14: Insert Text

To insert Text, click on the Type Tool on the Toolbox.

Step 16: Adjust Leading

You can use either the Direct Select Tool or the Selection Tool to move the Text to the right spot under the Title.

For Text that needs to wrap to another line, the distance between the lines is a bit too big. This distance is called Leading.

To adjust the Leading of a Text Block, select it, then go up to the Menu Bar and select Window > Type > Character.

This will open a Character Window that also has tabs for Paragraph and OpenType.

The Call to Action at the bottom of the Flyer is set to NotMaryKate, 24pt. The Telephone Number is a separate Text block with the same settings. Use the Selection Tool to move it.

The Address is set to Monoglyceride, 16pt, Leading 13pt.

Notice the difference between the 2 Address Text blocks. After an adjustment is made to Leading, the lines of Text appear closer together.

Since this block of Text has the Orange Background, you'll need it to stand out more. The Font Style Box is in between the Font and Font Size Boxes.
