Step 01: Document Setup
Upon opening Corel Draw X7, you will see a Get Started Welcome Screen on the left side of the window.
Select New Document. The Create a New Document Window appears. Once you are certain that Size is set to Letter, click OK.
Your Blank Document will be created.
Step 03: Set Object Size
You'll notice that the Property Bar: Rectangle becomes visible when the Rectangle Tool and or Shape is selected.
Set Object Size to Width 1.45 Inches and Height to 11 Inches. Hit your Enter Key to see the change made.
Drag the Resized Rectangle to the right side of the Page.
Create 2 more Rectangles, setting their Size to Width 1.18 Inches and Height to 11 Inches. Make certain to leave a little space between Rectangles.
Step 04: Custom Colors (Fill & Outline)
Now let's add some Color to these Shapes. The Color Palette is located to the right of the screen.
But we want to add our own Custom Colors. Go to the Window Menu and select Color Palettes > Palette Editor.
This opens the Palette Editor Window. Make sure to choose Document Palette from the List.
Select Add Color.
This opens a Select Color Window. CMYK Values should be visible. Set C to 38, M to 100, Y to 33 and K to 14.
Select Add to Palette at the bottom of this window.
Next add a second set of values to create a 2nd Custom Color. Set C to 13, M to 52, Y to 2 and K to 0. Click Add to Palette.
For the 3rd Custom Color set C to 4, M to 19, Y to 0 and K to 0.
Select Add to Palette. Then click OK to close the Select Color Window.
3 New Colors will become visible in the Palette Editor Window.
Click OK to close this window and add these New Custom Colors to the Document Palette at the bottom of the window.
Now select the Rectangle on the right. Move your cursor over the Dark Purple and select to Fill the Rectangle.
The Rectangle is now filled with our 1st Custom Color.
Apply the other 2 Colors to the other Rectangle.
To set the Outline of each Rectangle, select a Rectangle and move your cursor over its Fill Color. Then right click and its Outline will assume that Color as well. Repeat for the other 2 Rectangles.
Step 05: Outline Width
Draw another Rectangle. Set its Width to 8.5 Inches and its Height to 11 Inches. Line it up so that it completely covers the Flyer.
Set the Outline to White from the Color Palette to the right.
On the Property Bar: Rectangle, set the Outline Width to 25 pt.
The Thick Outline covers all the borders of the page.
Step 06: Transparency
Select the Transparency Tool from the Toolbox.
The Property Bar: Transparency becomes active.
Select the 2nd Icon - Uniform Transparency. Now you will be able to see through the White Outline to the Colors below.
Adjust the Size of this Rectangle to Width 8.25 Inches and Height to 10.7 Inches. Realign the Rectangle so that it lines up with the Page Borders.
