You will notice tabs for Page, Guides, Grids, Snap, Color Management, and Scripting.

On the Page Tab where the Default Units is set to px, select the Down Arrow and choose in for Inches from the drop down window.

In the Page Size section select US Letter for 8.5" x 11".

Orientation will be set to Portrait by Default.

To close the window, simply click on the x in the upper right hand corner. Now you can move on to creating your document.

Step 02: Create Rectangle

This Computer Classes Flyer is a very simple flyer that looks like you took some time to create it. The first thing that you will add to this Flyer will be a Rectangle.
Inkscape Rectangle Tool

Go to the Toolbar and select the Rectangle Tool.

Notice that this will change the Tool Properties Bar, which is located above the Flyer/Canvas.

You'll see that the Width and Height boxes are grayed out. Draw a Rectangle anywhere on the Canvas.

The Rectangle will have 3 Handles (2 Squares, 1 Circle) on 3 of its corners. The Square Handles allow you to adjust the Rectangle's Width and Height. The Circular Handle allows you to adjust the Roundness of the Rectangle Corners.

However, instead of adjusting the dimensions by sight, we will use a more precise method.

Step 03: Edit Rectangle Size

Notice that the Width and Height boxes of the Tool Properties Bar have changed to allow you to edit the Rectangle's Dimensions directly. Go up to the Width box and enter 4.15" and set Height to 3.159".

Note that the selected Rectangle will have 8 Black Scale Handles around it.

Step 04: Create Duplicates

With the Rectangle still selected we will now create 5 Duplicates. To do so go to the Menu Bar and select Edit > Duplicate.

Now you can do this for a total of 5 times or you can simply select your Ctrl and D Keys together, 5 times. Pick whichever method works best for you.

The Duplicates will appear directly beneath the Original.

Select the Rectangle and move it to the Top Right Corner of the flyer.

Then place a Rectangle in each of the remaining corners at the bottom of the flyer.

Inkscape Rectangle 3 Blue Fill
Inkscape Rectangle R 215 G 227 B 244
Rectangle 3 - R to 215, G to 227, and B to 244.

Inkscape Rectangle 4 Blue Fill

Inkscape Rectangle 5 Blue Fill
Inkscape Rectangle R 33 G 68 B 120

Inkscape Rectangle 6 Blue Fill
Inkscape Rectangle R 175 G 198 B 233
Rectangle 6 - R to 175, G to 198, and B to 233.

So that all the Colored Rectangles should look something like this:

Draw another Rectangle, this time setting its Width to 7.5" and its Height to 10".
