Step 01: Publication Types

Upon opening Microsoft Publisher 2010, you will see a listing of Available Templates.

Select Blank 8.5 x 11".

This window will also have 2 other categories below it, Most Popular and More Templates.

This will bring you to your Blank Canvas where you can begin designing your Halloween Flyer.



Step 02: Margins

Go to the Ribbon and select the Page Design Tab.

In the Page Setup Group click on the Margins Icon.

Select Moderate from the Drop Down Menu.



Step 03: Insert Rectangle

The first thing to create will be the Hill that the Haunted House will be on.

Click on the Insert Tab of the Ribbon and select Shapes from the Illustrations Group.

Select Rectangle which is the second shape in the Basic Shapes section.

Your cursor will turn to a Plus Sign.

Draw a Rectangle about 1/3 the size of the Canvas.



Step 04: Insert Freeform Line

Go back to the Shapes Menu and select Freeform from the Lines section.

Move your Plus Sign Cursor over any corner of the Rectangle, click once and move to the next corner clicking each time you get to a new corner.

You must go back and click on the first corner you started with in order to complete the shape.

While the new Rectangle is still selected, hold down your Up Arrow Key and move it just enough so that you are able to see your 1st Rectangle behind it.



Step 05: Edit Points

Select your 1st Rectangle and hit your Delete Key.

Select the remaining Rectangle and move it back to the correct location on the page.

On the Ribbon select the Format Tab then click on Edit Shape in the Insert Shapes Group.

This will open the Edit Shape Drop Down Menu from where you will select Edit Points.

4 Black Square Handles will be at each corner of the Rectangle.

Move your cursor to the middle of the top line of the Rectangle.

Right click and select Add Point from the pop up menu.

You should now have 3 Points on the top line of the Rectangle.

Hold the mouse button down over this Middle Point and drag the mouse upward about 1/2 inch.

Then Right click and select Smooth Point from the pop up menu.

Now you have the hill.

Step 06: Shape Fill

Deselect the Rectangle then select it again.

Go back to the Format Tab, in the Shape Styles Group, click on the down arrow on the right side of the Shape Fill Icon.

This will open a Drop Down Color Menu.

Select Black and then you'll have the Black Hill.

If you haven't done so already, move the hill into the proper position on the flyer.
