Upon opening Microsoft Publisher 2010, you will see a listing of Available Templates.
This window has Categories for Blank Templates, Most Popular (popular documents created) and More Templates (other publication types).
Go to the Ribbon and select the Page Design Tab.
Select Blank 8.5 x 11". It's Orientation is set to Portrait.
This will bring you to your Blank Canvas where you can begin designing the Mothers Day Flyer 3.
From the Page Setup Group select the Margins Icon.
From the drop down menu select Narrow which sets the Top, Bottom, Left and Right Margins to 0.25 Inches respectively.
So we'll be keeping all essential parts of the Design within these Margins.
On the Home Tab, select Shapes from the Objects Group.
This opens a drop down menu with Preformatted Shapes.
Select Rectangle from either the Recently Used Shapes or Basic Shapes section.
The Cursor will change to a Plus Sign.
Holding down your Left Mouse button, drag to draw the Rectangle on the page.
Once you release the mouse you will see that the Rectangle is surrounded by 4 Resizing and 4 Skewing Handles.
There will also be a Green Circular Rotation Handle above the Rectangle.
You'll also notice that the Drawing Tools Format Tab appears.
To the far right of the Format Tab you will see the Size Group. Here you will set the Rectangle Height to 11 Inches and Width to 1.45 Inches.
Then drag this Rectangle to the right of the page.
Create 2 more Rectangles, setting their Size to Height 11 Inches and Width 1.18 Inches.
Leave a little space between Rectangles.
Select the first Rectangle that was drawn.
In the Format Tab select the Shape Fill Icon from the Shape Styles Group.
This will reveal a Color menu.
However, since we wish to create a Custom Fill, select More Fill Colors.
This opens the Colors Window which has Tabs for Standard, Custom, and Pantone Colors.
The Custom Tab should be active.
Set the RGB Colors to Red 102, Green 51 and Blue 153.
You will notice that the New Color appears above the Previous Color in the bottom right corner of this Window.
Click OK and the New Color will be added to the Rectangle.
