Step 06: Add Points

Move your cursor to the middle of the line on the right side of the Rectangle.

Right click to reveal a menu.

Select Add Point.

Add 2 more Points to this Line Segment.

Move the Middle Point inward a couple Inches.

Then move the 2nd Point that you added inward. While moving this Point, it will appear to be making a Parallelogram.

Repeat this movement for the 3rd Point added.

Select the Top Point that was moved, then right click.

Select Smooth Point from the menu that appears.

The Line Segment curves.

Repeat for the Bottom Point that was also moved.

You'll notice a dip in the Middle Point.

Select the Middle Point and move it slightly inward so that the Curve becomes smoother.

Add 2 New Points on both ends of the now Curved Line Segment.

Drag each Point so that it connects to the Line Segment closest to it.

Insert another Rectangle and place it from Top to Bottom over the visible White Space on the Flyer.

Set the Shape Fill & Outline to Dark Red.

You can select this Color from the Standard Colors Section.

So that you have a Solid Filled Dark Red Rectangle.



Step 07: Arrange Order

With the Rectangle still selected go to the Arrange Group of the Format Tab.

There select the Send Backward Icon.

The Red Rectangle will be placed behind the Gray Shape.

Step 08: Create Duplicate

Select the First Shape then hold down your Ctrl and D Keys together.

This will create a Duplicate Shape.

It will be placed above the Original.

Set both the Fill & Outline Colors of this Shape to White.

Then move this Shape Backward.

Use your Arrow Keys to move the White Shape to the Right slightly so that more of the White shows.



Step 09: Royalty Free Clip Art

The Royalty Free Clip Art in this Happy Father's Day Flyer was downloaded from Clker.

The Clip Art is called Necktie.

Once the Image has been downloaded, you will need to place it into the flyer.


Step 10: Insert & Resize Text Box

In Adobe Illustrator, OpenOffice Draw, Inkscape, Corel Draw and Microsoft Publisher, you are able to freely move an Image anywhere on the canvas. This is also possible in Microsoft Word as long as you first place the Image within a Text Box.

To Insert a Text Box, go back to the Ribbon and select the Insert Tab.

Then go to the Text Group and select the Text Box Icon.

At the bottom of the Built-In Window, select Draw Text Box.

Your cursor will change to an X.

While holding down your mouse button, drag and draw a Text Box on the Flyer.

The Text Box will have 8 Handles around it for Resizing.

The Ribbon will also change to the Format Tab.

Set the Text Box Dimensions to Height 8.15 Inches and Width 2 Inches.

Then drag this Text Box over the Red Shape, so that it looks like this:

Now you're ready to Insert the Image.
