Step 09: Rotate Shape

Now we are going to change the Color of the Monitor from Blue to one of our Background Colors.

Draw a Small Rectangle that covers the monitor.

The Rectangle will be surrounded by 8 Green Resizing Handles.

Click on the Rectangle to reveal 8 Red Rotation and Skewing Handles.

There are 4 Rotation Handles, 1 at each corner of the Rectangle.

The other Handles are used for Skewing.

Move your cursor over the Top Right Rotation Handle.

The cursor will change to a Rotation Arrow.

Holding down your mouse button, drag the Rectangle slightly to the right.

Step 10: Convert To Curve - Edit Points

With the Rectangle selected, right click over it to reveal a menu.

Select Convert > To Curve.

Then select the Points Icon from the Drawing Toolbar.

4 Points appear around the Rectangle.

You can then select each Point and move slightly inward.

Now you can change the Line and Filling Color of the Rectangle to one of the Background Colors.

Here I've selected the Cream Color.

All that's missing from this Computer Classes Flyer is Text.



Step 11: Free Fonts

Next we can add the Title Text to the flyer. For the Computer Classes Flyer Title and Subtitles, the Font used is Black Rose by Bright Ideas.

The remaining Text on the Flyer uses the Desyrel Font by Apostrophic Labs. Both Fonts were downloaded from Fontsquirrel.

(Note for a newly downloaded Font to be usable on your machine, you must first install it. Any Font installed while OpenOffice Draw is open, will not be visible in the Font List. To correct this, you must first restart the OpenOffice Draw program after Font(s) installation.)

Step 12: Insert & Format Text

From the Properties Sidebar - Insert Shapes section, you can select the Text Icon.

Click in any white space above the Image and type the Title Text "Computer Classes".

Notice that both the Text section and Paragraph section of the Properties Sidebar appear.

Select all of the Text, click on the Down Arrow on the Font Box and select Black Rose from the Font List.

On the right side of the Font Box is Font Size which you should set to 66.

The Text should look like this:

Step 13: Text Fill & Stroke

With the Text selected, click the Down Arrow on the Font Color Icon located in the Text Section of the Properties Sidebar.

Select our Custom Made Maroon Color from the Font Color Menu that appears.

Select the border around the Text. It will be surrounded by 8 Blue Handles. Repeat Step 04 to create 1 Duplicate of the Title Text.

Drag the Duplicate away from the Original so that you can see the changes you make to it.

Set the Duplicate Font Color to White. Right above the Font Color Icon is the Shadow Icon.

Select it to apply a Drop Shadow to the Duplicate Text.

Click on the Arrow on the right side of the Arrange Icon located on the Drawing Toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

This reveals the Arrange Menu.

Select the Send Backward Icon which is the 3rd Icon on the top row.

Using your Arrow Keys on your keyboard move the Duplicate behind the Original Text.

Step 14: Group Objects

Drag your cursor over both the Original and Duplicate Text while holding down your mouse button.

On the Menu Bar, select Modify > Group.

The Grouped Object will be surrounded by 8 Green Handles. You should also Group the Computer with the Cream Rectangle.

To select these Objects, click on the Computer and hold down your Shift Key while you select the Cream Rectangle.

Grouping Objects will make them easier to move.

This is how your flyer should look thus far.

Step 15: Add Remaining Text

The remaining Text, except for Subtitles uses the Desyrel Font.

Set the Font Size for the main block of Text to 28.

For the other 3 Blocks of Text, set Font Size to 22 with Subtitles at 28.

Center them by clicking on the Center Icon in the Paragraph Section of the Sidebar.

Before you know it, your Computer Classes Flyer is complete.

Step 16: Save File

To Save this flyer, go to the File Menu and select Save As.

This opens the Save As Window.

Browse to where you wish to save the file. Name your file and click Save.
