I thought that it would be interesting to highlight the differences and similarities of how one particular thing gets done in all 6 Business and Graphic Design Applications.

So let's start with Images.

How To Insert an Image in Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word you can insert an image from Microsoft Clip Art or from a file that you have stored on your machine. If the image is in Clip Art, go to Insert > Picture > Clip Art.

This will open up the Clip Art window.

In the Search for box type in the kind of image you are looking for, for instance "flower" and hit the Go button.

In this case 2 flower images have appeared.

To select an image simply click on the one that you would like and the image will be put on the page.








If the image is from a file that you have stored go to Insert > Picture > From File.

This will open up the Insert Picture Window.


Choose your image, click on the Insert button and the image will be put on the page.

How To Insert an Image in Inkscape

To insert an image in Inkscape go to File > Import.

This will open up the Select File To Import Window.















Select your image and click on the Open button in the bottom right corner.

This will then open the Link or Embed Image Window.

An Embedded Image stands alone, but results in a larger SVG file.

A Linked Image references a file outside the SVG document you are working on resulting in a smaller SVG file.

Make your selection and click the OK button in the bottom right.

The image will be surrounded by 8 arrows. They allow you to Resize your image.

How To Insert an Image in Corel Draw

To insert an image in Corel Draw go to the Menu Bar and select File > Import.

This will open the Import Window where you can select your image and then click on the Import button in the bottom right.

The Name of the file that you've selected will then appear on the screen. Drag the cursor over your page and click on the mouse button to place in the desired location.

Your image will appear with 8 black squares around it.

How To Insert an Image in OpenOffice Draw

To insert an image in OpenOffice Draw go to the Menu Bar and select
Insert > Picture > From File.

This will open up the Insert Picture Window.


Select your desired image and hit the Open button.

The image will appear on the page with 8 Green Square Resizing Handles around it.
