  • Step 13: Import Image

To place the new images, go to File > Import which will open the Select File to Import Window.

After you've located the file, click the Open button at the bottom right of the window.

A window will appear asking you to Link or Embed your image.

    Select Embed > OK.

Your image will appear with 8 Arrows around it.

    Step 14: Resize Image

To Resize the Image, set the Width Box to 2 in and the Height Box to 3 in. Then hit Enter or click anywhere on the Flyer.

Place the Resized image in the center of the Rectangle. Set its Opacity to 50% as well. Hit the Enter Key or click somewhere on the Flyer.

    Step 15: Order Objects

With the Image still selected, click on the Lower to Bottom Icon on the Tools Control Bar so that the Image will now be placed behind the Rectangle.

    Step 16: Free Fonts

Next we can start adding text to the Flyer. For the Restaurant Flyer Title, SubTitles and Telephone, the Font used is Not Mary Kate by Nick's Fonts, which was downloaded from FontSpace.com.

If you want to view more of Nick's Fonts check out his website at www.nicksfonts.com.

For the remaining text I used a Font called Monoglyceride. It can be downloaded from FontFreak.com and is designed by Tepid Monkey Fonts.

(Note for a newly downloaded Font to be usable on your machine, you must first install it. Any Font installed while Inkscape is open, will not be visible in the Font List. To correct this, you will have to restart the Inkscape program after Font(s) installation.)

    Step 17: Insert Text

To insert the text, go to the Tool Box and select the Text Tool. Click anywhere on the page and type "Aly's Restaurant".

Go to the Tool Properties Bar, click the First Down Arrow and select NotMaryKate from the Font List.

Then set the Font Size to "56" by clicking on the Next Down Arrow to the right and selecting "56" or you can just click in the box and type in that number, whichever is faster for you.

Select the title and move it into the desired location on the flyer.

Repeat for Subtitles setting the Font Size to 40 and Telephone Info setting Font Size to 28.

For the Authentic Text and the Menu Items, repeat the steps to select Monoglyceride from the Font List, setting Font Sizes to 36 and 20 respectively.
Center the Authentic Text by clicking on the Align Center Icon.
Set the Alignment for the Menu Items to Left.

Since all 4 Menu Titles will have the same Color we will be making the change to all 4 of them at the same time. To do this, hold down the Shift Key while selecting each Menu Title.

Once selected, go up to the Menu Bar and click on the Fill and Stroke Icon.

In the Fill Tab select the Flat Color Icon then set R to 255, G to 102, and B to 0 for Orange.

Then go to the Stroke Paint Tab and select the No Paint Icon.

The Font should look like this:

    Step 18: Save File

To save your file, go to File > Save. It will be saved as a Scalable Vector Graphic (svg) file by default.

There you have it, we have created an eyecatching, colorful Restaurant Flyer by implementing a very simple step by step process.

Your completed Restaurant Flyer using the OpenSource Professional Graphic Design Application - Inkscape should look like this:
